Cooperation, collaboration and common action

1. Dream it

The Agri SA surplus food aid campaign began as the Covid-19 pandemic impacted negatively on the livelihoods of many communities that were in dire need of basic food supplies. As the pandemic disrupted the South African economy, the reality of the ever-increasing rate of hunger and unemployment in many communities could not be overlooked.

2. Build it

Agri SA and its affiliates had to step in and try to combat the spike of hunger and devastation by buying surplus food from farmers across the country and giving food parcels to communities in need.

3. Grow it

This initiative started in June 2020 and was rolled out into two phases as Agri SA received a very generous donation of R1 million from Yara Africa Fertilizer during the Covid-19 pandemic. As food parcels and soup were handed to the communities during phase one of the initiative, we started receiving more donations and assistance and the initiative grew to become a success.

Strategic focus

  • Provide food security to communities in need.

  • Awareness without compromising human dignity.

  • Coordinate and manage food aid effectively.
